Colt 1911A1 Panama Canal Special Edition – .45 ACP, One of 250, Factory Display Case & Box

This Colt Government Model 1911A1 is a Custom Shop commemorative issued in 1978 to honor the completion of the Panama Canal (1870–1914). One of only 250 produced, this Panama Canal Special Edition features extensive gold inlay, photo-engraved scenes, and a unique set of metal grips—each panel inscribed with “1870–1914 One of 250.”

The slide is a visual tribute to U.S. engineering achievement:

• The right side features the U.S. seal, portraits of Goethals, Roosevelt, Stevens, and Gorgas, and the motto “They Conquered The Isthmus” in gold inlay.

• The left side showcases the Gatun Locks, banners reading “Path Between The Seas” and “The Panama Canal”, and a map outline of the Canal Zone—all elegantly detailed in gold atop a deep blue finish.

Other enhancements include:

• Pewter stocks with spread eagle motif and commemorative dates

• Factory blued finish

• Polished hammer

• Serrated trigger

• Custom Colt wood display case with red velvet lining and engraved commemorative plaque

This pistol comes complete with its original Colt woodgrain cardboard box, matching serial number label, manual, and presentation case with key. The firearm is in excellent condition, showing 98% original finish with only minor handling marks and appears unfired.
